How could they forget my birthday?

I turned six yesterday (February 5) and my parents completely forgot my birthday. I woke up expecting presents and even bigger cuddles than usual, but I got nothing. Not even a “happy birthday”.

I think my mum is distracted by her Indian dogs. Maybe I’ll have to turn Indian or start eating curries to get her to take notice of me?

Humans need us, but it took them a while to figure it out!

I was reading the paper this morning, and in the “Sunday Life” section there was an article called “The Power of Pets”. It was all about how humans live longer lives and are healthier and happier if they live with dogs.

There were also some funny sticksticks - you know, numbers and stuff:

85% of Australian pet owners say their pet is a part of the family (what’s wrong with the other 15%?)

81% feel they’re never alone when they’re with their pet (and they’re the smart 81%???)

57% say their pet is their best friend (gee, let’s hope no one does a survey of dogs to find out who they say their best friend is)

There was lots more, but the other thing I wanted to mention was the “Pets At Work Scheme”. Apparently some American companies let humans take their dogs to work with them. Not so here in Australia, although my mum has sneaked me into work with her on the weekend–because she can’t bear to be without me!

Maybe I’m a cow?

Maxienne and her cowMum says she thinks I might be a cow on account of the fact that whenever we go for a walk, I like to stop and chew grass. Lots of grass!

Well, even if I am a cow, I don’t think that’s so bad. My aunty Maxienne would really love me anyway. She’s mad about cows. When she and mum went to India, Maxienne drew lots of pictures and took lots of photos of cows. She even had an exhibition with some art work she’d done that featured the Indian cows. Mum’s got one of her cow prints on our wall.

Now she’s gone and bought herself her very own cow–well, bull actually. He’s made out of fibreglass so she won’t have to worry about feeding him, but he’ll still need lots of cuddles. That’s them together in the photo. Looks like she really loves that cow–err, bull!

What a grrrreat Christmas!

Bacchus wearing his Christmas ribbon Merry Christmas to all my doggy friends all over the world!

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted already, and it’s only Christmas Eve.

I’ve had a really busy few days. First, on Sunday, mum took me for a long, long drive in the car–6 or 7 hours in total. We went to pick up grandma so she could come and stay with us for Christmas. I had a great time, apart from a touch of car sickness in the first hour of the trip. Mum stopped every now and then so I could get out for a bit of a walk and a sniff around. By the time we got home I was having such a good time I wanted to keep driving around.

Then yesterday, we had a big Christmas party with lots of mum and dad’s friends. The house was filled with people, and even cousin Angus came to party with me. I got to eat lots of interesting tidbits, and lots of people played ball with me. I was soooo tired when they all finally went home.

Today we went to visit my other grandma (the one who lives with cousin Angus) and then tonight we got to open our Christmas presents. I got a ball and a Christmas stocking filled with lots of yummy goodies.

Mum was trying to take photos of me opening up my presents, but I was so excited, it was hard to keep still so she could get the camera in focus. You can see some of the photos below. If you click on the small images you’ll be able to see a larger photo.
