Hurray, it’s Christmas

Photo: home made dog biscuitsI love Christmas because I love presents.

And I got my first present in the mail yesterday. It was all the way from Cousin Thouzi in Seymour. And it was very exciting - yummy dog biscuits that she had made (I think her mother helped her) and sent to all her doggie friends and family for Christmas. There’s a picture of them on the left. And she even sent me the recipe for how to make them. I don’t think my mum will let me near the oven though.

I can’t wait for Christmas Eve. We’re having a big family bash - a BBQ with lots of food (my second favourite thing next to presents), and lots of presents too. I wonder what Santa Claus has brought me.

Photo: Teddy in his Santa suitI hope Santa brings you something good too.

I’m not the only doggy who loves Christmas. My friend Teddy (that’s him on the right), is a Christmas hound too. And as you can see, he likes to play dress-ups as well. Here he is wearing his Santa suit - well, this time it’s a virtual Santa suit.

I wonder what happened to his real one?

Dog tired!

Bacchy is dog tired
I’m so tired. I’ve had such a big weekend. I need a big nap!

My mum took me for a looooong ride in her new car. It’s a shiny little black car she really likes, but it’s a little too bumpy for my liking. Every time I got all snuggly and sleepy, a big bump woke me up again.

We went up country to visit my nanna. Nanna isn’t very well, but she’s about to have a significant birthday. She’s going to be 80 years old in December, and the family is planning a big celebration.

On the way up to see Nanna we visited Aunty Kay in Seymour. Her little Zaggy dog doesn’t really like visitors. He wants every one to keep out of his house.

And on the way home we visited Aunty Kate in Coburg. My cousin Nelly wasn’t too friendly. She snarled at me whenever I got close. But she loves Aunty Kate, and gave her lots of cuddles.

My dadda came to pick me up from mum’s place tonight. I’m looking forward to going home to snuggle up in a big warm bed.

My favourite shop

Photo: the OpShop, my favourite! This is a photo of our local op shop (my American doggy friends would probably call it a thrift store).

It is my favourite shop. I make mum take me there every day. I start whining if she hasn’t taken me by lunch time - that usually does the trick.

Mum makes me wait outside while she goes in and finds a nice little soft toy for me. Sometimes I get so excited, I sneak inside and have a bit of a look around myself. Sometimes the lovely ladies who run the shop invite me in. And sometimes, they’ve even picked out a toy and have it ready for me.

After I’ve got my new toy I carry it all the way home. Everyone we meet on the way home can see how happy I am, and they smile at me. I’d smile back, but I’d drop my toy if I did. Instead I wiggle a lot and wag my tail.

Sometimes when we go for a walk, the op shop door is closed. Mum tells me the shop isn’t open, but I jump up and look in the windows just to make sure. I hate it when the shop is closed. It’s my favourite shop, and I love getting new toys.

Good advice

My mum’s friend Jodie sent her this stuff via email. It sounds like good advice to me. And I hope a few humans read it!

If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy
  • When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience
  • Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory
  • Take naps
  • Stretch before rising
  • Run, romp, and play daily
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do
  • On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree
  • When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body
  • No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk
  • Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough
  • Be loyal
  • Never pretend to be something you’re not
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
