An expensive lesson
Mum went to court again yesterday to give evidence about the day I got bitten by the big mean doberman.
She was a bit annoyed because the man who was with the doberman told some lies about what happened: he said he had tried to comfort me and mum after the attack, but we both remember that he just kept saying “my dog didn’t bite your dog”.
But it didn’t matter in the end. The magistrate convicted him on two charges of being a useless dog guardian and he now has to pay $3,700 in fines and costs.
The council ranger told mum that they’d try to get it written up in the local paper. They want people to understand that even if you don’t own the dog–the man with the doberman was not its owner–you are responsible for what the dog does if you are walking it, or let it out.
