Alice is camera shy

alice.jpgThis is my friend Alice who doesn’t like having her photo taken. She was under the table trying to hide when mum took this shot.

Alice lives with Jim and Georgina in Balaclava and goes for lots of long walks. She has two dog friends who live next door–Skela (Greek for ‘bitch’) who is also a blue heeler, and Jack, a Maltese-Shitzu cross.

Skela and Jack visit often. The humans broke off one of the fence palings so the dogs could play with each other whenever they want.

Sometimes Alice growls at Skela just to make sure she remembers that she’s not in her own back yard–can’t have other dogs thinking they own the place!

And sometimes Jack tries to steal Alice’s bones, but he’s not too smart at figuring out how to get through the hole in the fence and back into his house with a big bone in his mouth.

Alice has her own chair. She picked the most comfy spot in the living room and one where she can easily see what’s going on in the kitchen (an important activity in the life of most dogs, but because Georgina is such a good cook, this task takes on special importance) and out in the back yard.

Like poor Dexter, Alice lost her pussy cat friend recently. His name was Harry, and he was a shiny black cat. While it’s fair to say that Alice misses Harry, she doesn’t mind all the extra attention she gets.

Where is Willis?

Reward offered for info about WillisI haven’t seen my friend Willis for weeks now. I’m really getting worried.

Normally we see him almost every morning on our walk. Sometimes we miss him because he’s playing in someone else’s back yard, or having his breakfast. But it’s been weeks now and there’s been no sight of him. I miss him!

I’m so worried that I’m offering a reward for information about his whereabouts.

If you’ve seen Willis or know what’s become of him, I’ll offer you a week’s worth of walkies with me if you can tell me what’s going on.

Please email me at bacchus@dog-of-whine.com or add a comment here if you know where Willis is.

An expensive lesson

Mum went to court again yesterday to give evidence about the day I got bitten by the big mean doberman.

She was a bit annoyed because the man who was with the doberman told some lies about what happened: he said he had tried to comfort me and mum after the attack, but we both remember that he just kept saying “my dog didn’t bite your dog”.

But it didn’t matter in the end. The magistrate convicted him on two charges of being a useless dog guardian and he now has to pay $3,700 in fines and costs.

The council ranger told mum that they’d try to get it written up in the local paper. They want people to understand that even if you don’t own the dog–the man with the doberman was not its owner–you are responsible for what the dog does if you are walking it, or let it out.
