These are pictures of the Norman family dogs who live in Orbost, Gippsland.
Shadow is in the first photo. She used to be jet black and could hide from people in the dark. But as she’s gotten older, she has undergone some changes in colour, and now she can’t hide!
In the second photo, Toby is in the kennel and Nippy is in the foreground. Cute, aren’t they?

This is one of those rare times when Ten and I were cuddling on the couch and it didn’t end in tears.
Usually, Ten tries to smooch me and I bite him on the ears and then we end up chasing each other around the house.
I’m onto his game: one minute he’s trying to nuzzle up to me, next, he’s trying to usurp my place as top dog, by cuddling up to mum and dad. I’ll have none of that!

My mum has known Bertie and his mum Kate for a long, long time–or something she calls ‘yonks’.
Bertie is a black and white wire-haired terrier with lots of interesting things in his pedigree. He’s a bit of a collage really: his tail is crooked, his ears pointy-outy. He looks like someone put him together from a heap of spare parts.
While he mightn’t look like a Rolls Royce breed, he’s got a heart of gold, and that crooked little tail just wags and wags.
He’s had a few adventures in his life too. Once one of his mum’s boarders took him for a walk and forgot she’d left him outside the post office. Luckily someone found him and he was returned safely home.
These days Bertie doesn’t get out much. He’s getting quite old and grey and his hearing isn’t the best. But he’s still adorable - isn’t he?

A week after I got bitten, the local ranger from the council came around and took a statement from mum about the attack. He also took a photo of my bottom. He said he’d try to find the dog and its owners, and he asked mum if she’d be prepared to go to court.
Now, another week later, the council man rang to say that they found the doberman who bit me.
The dog wasn’t registered, so they are going to fine its owner. The man who was with the dog when it attacked me admitted the attack, and they’ve written out a cheque to cover my medical costs.
Mum’s still got to talk with the council man, and there may be a court case. But for the most part, the saga is over.
My bottom is healing up well, though it will probably take some time for my hair to grow back. Mum’s still a bit scared of taking me for walks, but I’m pretty cool about it now. She’s on holidays at the moment, so I’m hoping to get lots and lots of walks and rides in the car.
